3 Common Problems In RV Water Heater And Their Solution

Jun. 30 2023 RV's By Jeff Turnbow

A hot water system that fails to supply hot water is one of the most common concerns that the average caravan owner faces on the road. It is a scary situation to be found in and much more difficult to escape. With so many valves, connections, and components, pinpointing the issue seems to be nearly impossible. Let's break the troubleshooting process into three types of operations to verify. In your Airstream or motor homes, these problems can cause a nuisance. To avoid this, you must contact Airstream dealers in Mississippi.

Try them in the sequence we've listed them, and, perhaps, you'll be able to get hot water in your caravan again.

If not, a competent technician or serviceman from our company should be contacted.

Check for problems with the gas or electrical supply

A faulty gas or power supply is the most common cause of hot water system failure. If your HWS is supported by gas, your other gas-powered appliances can help you figure out if gas flows to your system. Check the central regulator pressure if they appear to be malfunctioning as well. The optimal pressure is 2.8kPa. Check for physical obstructions in the pipe supplying gas to the burner assembly if all of this is in order and your HWS isn't turning on. This is a typical favorite hangout for insects and spiders, and it may require cleaning. In some circumstances, the burner is the cause of the issue. Again, it'll most likely be a physical obstruction, such as carbon build-up, which can be cleaned with a jet of pressurized gas.

In the case of electric hot water systems, make sure the electrical connection is in good working order. Make sure all of your other electrical equipments are operational. Check for blown circuits and replace them if necessary.

Make that the water supply pipe is in good working order

Your hot water system's water supply is regulated at several points, and any of these could be the source of your issue. To begin, turn off the HWS. The switch (two switches in the case of dual-mode hot water systems) is usually found under the washbasin in most motor homes. Turn off the water pump, which is checked by a rocker switch beneath the kitchen sink. Although you can always turn on a tap and listen to see if the pump is running, there should be a light to show whether the pump is on or off. Check the water supply for your trailer's hot water system after assuring it's turned off, and CEOs check the position of the water heater bypass lever in your caravan's utilities area.

The 'regular' position, not the 'bypass' position, should be used. The other method allows you to remove the hot water system from your caravan's plumbing while it isn't in use. Turn on a tap in the 'normal' setting to ensure the water flow is about the same in both the hot and cold positions. Note that any outdoor shower valves should be turned off while you check the water supply. Hot and cold water will mix, and the taps will constantly be warm.

Make sure the thermostat and heating element are both working correctly

If the following techniques have failed to identify a cause, the problem will likely be closer to home. If you've checked and double-checked the fuse and your HWS is still not providing hot water, the most likely problem is a damaged thermostat. The heating element in a dual-mode (gas and electric) hot water system that operates on gas but not on the electric could be faulty. These are minor problems that require the replacement of a single component. Replacing thermostats and heating elements is inexpensive and can restore your hot water system to its old status. When none of the measures above fail to provide you with a solution, contact a professional Airstream dealer as soon as possible. Good luck figuring out what's causing your cold water blues, especially before winter arrives.
